While many of us watched MTV Cribs bursting with jealousy and loathing, some of us might have seen the cinema rooms in a number of celebrity mansions as inspiration for a smaller-scale cinema room project of their own.
A great rule of thumb is the fact that the bigger your space, the 'heavier' your armchair could be (and the other way round). A study covered with walls of book shelves and wood panels can accommodate a heavy, dominating chair. Look at armchairs for sale who have rich detailing and more classic design. For a more modern space, especially a smaller space, look for free standing legs and slimmer arm rests, and straight, clean lines.
Use a tenon saw to cut the slot, following the rules on correct sawing techniques given in most DIY manuals. If you cut exactly to the marked lines, you will make the slot slightly too wide. Instead, position the saw so that one face is just inside and parallel to the line. When you have cut down the lines, cut out the short edge of the slot with a jig saw or chisel.
Conservatories are difficult to contend with, furniture-wise. Do you make the conservatory a secondary summer dining area, a bright working space, or a living room without a TV?
The size of a chair needs to be taken into consideration when you don't have a great deal of room to manoeuvre. When you are considering armchairs for small spaces you might consider a smaller version of a standard chair. This should be between 24 inches and 32 inches wide - usually ample room to allow somebody to be seated comfortably. Never leave sizing to chance, hoping that it will slot into that rather neat little place you have planned for it. You need to be ruthless with measurements - make sure you measure the space you have and the furniture you want to fill it with.
Perhaps the greatest limitation on furniture design is the smallness of modern houses. To be comfortable, a chair must not only be well designed, constructed and padded, but also it must be fairly large. As few people can afford the space for a large suite of furniture, armchairs become increasingly smaller.
